Different Strokes Shopfront Mural

Painted for Different Strokes, an art shop in Gorey, County Wexford, this mural began with a single line by Edgar Degas. The project was self-directed, with no brief beyond the quote itself, allowing the design to develop through bold hand lettering and decorative detail.

The text sits within an ornate border inspired by vintage picture frames, treated as a structural element rather than decoration alone. Three-dimensional lettering, banners and drop shadows give the words depth and rhythm, while the surrounding filigree draws on influences from sign painting, calligraphy and illustration.

This isn’t my first mural in Gorey—see my work at the Gorey Civic Centre mural wall [here].
